Welcome To The DJ Review It Website

Needle-drop and scratch Djing first happened in the late 1960s which led to DJ mixing and beat matching. Thanks to Technics between 1972 and 1984 they began to add features suited for the needs of DJs giving us the pitch control a light tone-arm and a slip matt, all we needed to make the dj world what it is today.

Quick DJ History

The Turntable
The history of the turntable being used as a musical instrument dates back to the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s when experimental composers used them in a manner similar to that of today's producers and DJs, by essentially sampling and creating music that was entirely produced by the turntable. Turntablism as a modern art form and musical practice has its roots within hip hop and hip hop culture of the early 1970s. Scratching was already widespread within hip hop by DJs and producers by the time turntablists started to appear.

The CD Deck
A century after Thomas Edison invented the phonograph, companies like Sony and Phillips introduced digital audio in the form of the compact disc in 1982. Radio stations were among the first to use the new technology. Then in the mid-1990's Pioneer Electronics released The CDJ-500 The first CD player to have a Jog Dial, a quick-response dial making frame-by-frame search and cue point selection easy and accurate while providing a closer to vinyl turntable feel, and also pitch control allowing DJs to beat match.

The Mixer
In the late 1960s Beatmatching and beatmixing with a DJ mixer were first used to ensure dancers didn't leave the dancefloor between songs. invented by Francis Grasso Initially he was looking for records with the same tempo, counting the tempo with a metronome. When the tempos didn't match, he was adjusting the pitch control on the turntable to bring the beats in sync. So Alex Rosner built him a mixer letting him listen to any channel in the headphones independently of what was playing on the speakers, allowing him to beatmatch the records by ear, this became the defining feature of DJ mixers Due to its increase in popularity, beatmatching and beatmixing are now considered basic techniques among DJs, becoming standard practice in clubs to create a seamless mix through the night, even if there are multiple acts

The Headphones
Headphones originated from the telephone earpiece in the early 1920s and were the only way to listen to electrical audio signals before amplifiers were developed. The first truly successful set was developed by Nathaniel Baldwin, who made them by hand in his kitchen and sold them to the U.S. Navy and then they were commonly used for early radio work.

The USB Controller
In the late 1990s manufacturers joined with computer DJing pioneers to offer professional endorsements. DJ digital controllers are MIDI controllers or USB-to-analog devices used for controlling computer based DJ software, installed on a computer or laptop. Computer DJ'ing has since become very popular with many professional.

Learn How To DJ

There are many different ways that allow a DJ to change from one tune to another without a silence at the end of every tune. Often a professional DJ will use more than one technique altho Beat matching is the most popular way.

Beat matching is where a DJ speeds up the track or slows down a track using the pitch control, so the beats from one tune are in time with the beats from the other tune. Using
headphones and a mixer allows the dj to Beat match in the headphones before sending it throw the speakers. Beat matching isn't something most people learn over night, the best way to start out is to get two tunes that you know and keep mixing them into each other, this will help Train your ears into knowing what tune is what and knowing if it needs speeding up or slowing down. It's all something that comes in time. When you have cracked the art of beat matching you can then learn where best to drop the tune, play about with affects and even learn the art of scratching.
